David Culliford is a medical statistician for the Research Design Service South Central.

After completing an MSc in medical statistics in 2003, David worked as a research fellow in social statistics at the University of Southampton, working on single-subject research contracts, studying some of the methodological aspects of sample surveys. He joined the RDSU in 2007 which then became the RDS in 2009.

David spends 30% of his time giving statistical support to researchers applying for NIHR funding, with the emphasis on early involvement at the design phase. The remainder of his time is spent working on his own research and he is currently analysing osteoarthritis data relating to an NIHR Programme Grant led by Professor Arden of the MRC Epidemiology Resource Centre.

In addition, David spends time teaching masterclasses on the statistical issues surrounding research design. He is widely published both in relation to his RDS activity and also in his own research activity in rheumatology.
