Adrian is the RDS Operational Manager responsible for the day to day running of the service. He has extensive experience in leading and developing strategies and managing complex organizations at a National level and within various NHS Trusts. Adrian has an MSc in nursing, is an elected Fellow of The Royal Society of Public health and holds a Diploma in Health Service Management.
He commenced nurse training at The London Hospital, Whitechapel (now The Royal London Hospital) in 1976, and qualified in 1980. He worked at The London Hospital and was appointed as a Charge Nurse on the Regional Neurosurgical Unit in 1982, and specialized in Accident & Emergency care 1983. In 1988 he moved to Greenwich District Hospital as a Nursing Officer for A&E and Trauma. Following this he held various posts within Newham Healthcare, in particular Executive Director of Nursing & Patient Care.
In 2000 Adrian was appointed to the UKCC as Director of Policy and Standards and was involved in the transfer of the UKCC to the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC). Moving from the NMC in 2003 he joined NHS Direct as Clinical Director for Multi-Channel Services. In this role he worked closely with DH on various health policy iniatives and in the setting up of NHS Choices. Adrian has been a member of the NICE NHS Evidence Advisory Accreditation Committee. He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer with City University London and was elected to the Honour Society Sigma Theta Tau. Adrian is joint editor of ‘Clinical Effectiveness in Practice’ (Palgrave 2001).
He is married with two children. His outside interests include dinghy sailing, learning to play the violin, and walking.
